This glossary describes key GlobalTill concepts, terminology, and products. It's a good place to get started familiarizing yourself with terminology that may come up throughout your use of GlobalTill and within our help center.

Admin

User privilege role within GlobalTill. For the administration interface see GT Backend.

Agent (liquor)

An agent typically represents a brand in a specific territory. (ex. Diageo represents Smirnoff in Canada, Forty Creek Distillery represents Appleton Rum, Renaissance represents J Lohr wines)

Available for Sale

The quantity of product available for sale to customers (products on hand less customer orders and pending return to vendor).

Backend

(known as the GT Backend) See GT Backend.

Backorders

When the quantity picked and invoiced is not enough to match the quantity ordered, you can create a backorder so that you can fulfill it at a later date when you have sufficient stock on hand.

E-commerce

Purchasing over the Internet as opposed in a physical location.

Flash (Interac Flash)

Payment by tapping card instead of swiping or inserting chip.

Frontend (also known as POS or cash register)

The GlobalTill application that is run on each cash register that provides the interface where cashiers scan and record sales.

GT Backend

The administration interface of GlobalTill.

Interac

Interac Association is a Canadian interbank network used for debit cards.

Invoice

A time-stamped document that itemizes and records a transaction between a buyer and a seller.

Licensee

A licensee is a business who holds a liquor license. Within the context of the retail liquor industry, wholesale sales are often referred to as licensee sales, because they are sales from one licensee (the retail store) to another licensee (the bar/restaurant).

Liquor License Number (Alberta)

Number which comes from the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) and it permits the person to sell liquor. It is typically 6 digits.

LTO or Limited Time Offer

A specialized sale given at the wholesale level to retailers. This is a discount that retailers sometimes pass on to the end customers, or simply take advantage of it to boost their profit margins.

Order

Signifies the intention to buy, although the transaction has not taken place. (see also invoice)

Ordering Multiplier

A calculation in GlobalTill Product Management uses for certain distributors where products have to be ordered in certain amounts (6 pack cans where you only have the option to order in multiples of 4 or flats)

Truncate

To shorten an object by cutting it off abruptly. In GlobalTill, truncate may used on shelf labels, dashboards or product tables if field names contain excess characters.

Wholesale

(Also know as 3rd party or licensee sales) Sell to others with liquor licensees as well as regular customers. ZYN is an example of a wholesaler.

Wrapping

"Wrapping text" means displaying the cell contents on multiple lines, rather than one long line.
