Getting Started with the Desk/5000 or Move/5000 (Default operating system)

  Heads up

This article covers the Desk/5000 and Move/5000 with the default operating system. It applies to all payment processors that are integrated with GlobalTill, except for Moneris, who uses a customized operating system.

The Desk/5000 and Move/5000 are the successors to the Ingenico iCT250 for most payment processors. The Desk/5000 supports Ethernet-based connectivity. The Move/5000 supports wireless cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity (but semi-integrated mode only works over Wi-Fi, not cellular or Bluetooth).

Setting up your terminal

For guidance on setting up your terminal, refer to the guides that accompany your terminal hardware, or check out the links below. Not all payment processors publish their setup and installation guides online. If you require assistance setting up your terminal hardware or software, contact your payment processor.

Administrative menu and configuration settings

There may be subtle differences in the operating interface depending on your payment processor. If you're unsure, refer to the documentation provided by your payment processor.

Accessing the Administrator menu

The Administrator menu is where terminal configuration settings are stored. Access this menu by pressing the Admin button (beside the gear icon) in the bottom left corner of the Home screen.

Use the Administrator menu to access the Clerk, Batch, and Setup menus, or configure Maintenance, Diagnostics, Security, Terminal Info, Host Management and Misc. Options.

To access the Administrator Menu, go to the Home screen and select Admin.

Communication settings

Desk/5000

On the Desk/5000, the communication menu is where you configure your terminal to connect with your network via ethernet. You can choose dynamic IP or static IP addressing.

To access ethernet settings or edit IP addressing on the Desk/5000, follow these steps.

  1. From the Home screen, select Admin > Setup Menu.
  2. Respond to any security prompts that appear.
  3. Select Communications > Ethernet > Ethernet Setup.
  4. Select the IP Address Type field and select Static IP or Dynamic IP.
    • Static IP. Complete the rest of the fields on the screen. If you need assistance with these fields, contact your network administrator.
    • Dynamic IP. Complete the rest of the fields on the screen. If you need assistance with these fields, contact your network administrator.
  5. When you've completed all of the fields, select Enter. The IP address is now saved.

  Heads up

Your terminal uses dynamic IP addressing as its default setting. Do not make changes to these settings unless instructed to do so by your provider's helpdesk or your organization's IT professional. If incorrect information is entered your terminal may lose connectivity and you will be unable to perform transactions.

Move/5000

On the Move/5000, the communication menu allows you set up, view, and modify your wireless communication settings. Semi-integration is not available when 4G is enabled, so we recommend connecting to Wi-Fi only.

To access Wi-Fi settings or connect to a wireless network on the Move/5000, follow these steps.

  1. From the Home screen, select Admin > Setup Menu.
  2. Respond to any security prompts that appear.
  3. Select Communications > Wi-Fi.
  4. Under Wi-Fi, press On/Off to enable/disable Wi-Fi mode. If enabled, the terminal displays "Wi-Fi enabled, press Enter."
  5. Select Wi-Fi Easy Conn. A list of Wi-Fi networks appear. Select the Wi-Fi network you wish to connect your terminal to.
    • The terminal scans your environment for Wi-Fi networks and displays a list of available networks. Only protected networks are displayed.
    • Your terminal uses dynamic IP addressing with automatic DNS as its default settings for Wi-Fi networks. To change these settings, go Advanced Settings and change the IP address from dynamic to static.
    • Your GT POS and payment terminal must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network to enable semi-integration.
  6. Enter the Wi-Fi password, and select Enter. Your terminal is now connected to the Wi-Fi network.

Setting up your terminal in semi-integration mode

Semi-integrated mode is an operating mode that connects your payment terminal with the GT POS while maintaining separation between payment information and other systems. When the terminal is in semi-integrated mode, the salesperson simply selects Card at checkout to send the amount owed to the payment terminal. The payment terminal sends the approval message back to the POS, and your POS automatically completes the transaction.

How do I enable semi-integration mode?

To enable semi-integration mode, complete the below and see the article How to set up semi-integration on your Desk/5000 or Move/5000 (Default operating system).

  1. Set up your terminal’s hardware and software.
  2. For wireless terminals (Move/5000): Disable cellular communication, enable Wi-Fi, and set up a Wi-Fi connection.
  3. Ensure you can process transactions in stand alone mode in order to verify your terminal is connected to your network and to the payment processor's Host.

Frequently asked questions
